Autism Hub at Stanground Academy

We are looking to recruit an expert Autism teacher to develop and lead our brand-new Autism Enhanced Resource Provision, which will open, initially with 2 students, in Easter 2025, leading to 8 students over the coming year. This is an exciting opportunity for the lead teacher be an integral part of the Hub’s design and development, to be there from the start of this incredible journey!

The Hub is being developed in conjunction with Peterborough Local Authority; Its 8 places are for students in Key Stage 3 & 4, whose predominant need and diagnosis is an Autistic Spectrum Condition. Students will be sufficiently cognitively able to access mainstream provision when deemed appropriate, but would benefit from the additional support, structure and resources that a Hub provides.

The right candidate will, as well as leading the provision on a day-to-day basis, will be instrumental in the development and delivery intervention programmes, particularly related to social & emotional, literacy and numeracy, and life skills curriculum within the Hub.

Why join Stanground Academy?

Over the past several years, the team, with support from the Trust, has worked tirelessly to establish Stanground Academy as an employer of choice in education in Peterborough. The Senior Leadership Team is deeply committed to staff wellbeing, recognising that a supportive environment for staff translates into the best experience and outcomes for students. Our success in staff recruitment and retention has enabled us to expand our pupil numbers, as more families place their trust in us. We are now seeking outstanding leaders, teachers and support staff to join our dedicated and experienced team on our journey to delivering a world-class education.  Peterborough Local Authority, the Academy and Trust felt that this was the ideal time to develop a Centre of Expertise in Autism and provision for Autistic students in the local area.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection (June 2023), the Academy was rated ‘Good’ across all measures. Ofsted praised our ambitious curriculum, and our results have improved year on year, with a Progress 8 score of +0.34 in 2024. Students told inspectors they were proud to attend the Academy, and 100% of staff, who completed the Ofsted survey, reported being happy to work here.

We understand that decisions to apply for leadership positions are influenced by various factors. Here are some reasons why Stanground Academy has thrived in recent years:

  • Autonomy – Each faculty is led by an expert in the field. Teaching strategies, marking and feedback policies, and curricula are bespoke to each subject area. This ensures autonomy in the classroom without prescriptive, one-size-fits-all policies.
  • Culture of Support – Staff and students thrive in an environment where support is embedded at every level. Leadership takes a personalised approach to helping colleagues succeed in their careers.
  • Focus on Teaching – Our centralised behaviour and rewards systems ensure classrooms are calm and orderly, allowing teachers to focus on teaching and students on learning.
  • Diversity and inclusion – We are proud to be a diverse community. Diversity, equality and inclusion is at the core of our decision making and academy values.
  • Progression and CPD – As part of a large Multi-Academy Trust, we benefit from regular subject team meetings to collaborate on pedagogy and assessment, complemented by a robust internal CPD programme.
  • Two-Week October Half-Term – We recognise that the first term can be intense. Our two-week half-term break provides staff and students with much-needed respite.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment.
